A Precise Texture-color Based Forest Detection in Urban Environment

Woodland detection in an urban environment was conducted using Ikonos multispectral images over the city of Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada). The detection process is composed of two parts. The first is a combination-based classification that uses radiometric and color-texture information. The color-texture feature is derived by integrative scheme using the wavelet transform. The second part is an object-based post-classification process. The overall classification accuracy of the first step was in the order 82%, however the post-classification brings a significant improvement of 12% to the final classification. * Corresponding author.
